Courts maintain hold on Musharraf, reject his review petition

KARACHI- The Sindh High Court (SHC) rejected a petition filed by former military ruler General (retd) Pervez Musharraf, who sought a review of the court’s prior decision to remove his name from the Exit Control List (ECL).

The SHC had been informed of the Supreme Court’s rejection of its earlier order to strike Musharraf's name off the ECL. The Sindh High Court had followed this decision and declared Musharraf's application inadmissible for hearing, subsequently dismissing it.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had suspended the SHC order until it decided the government’s appeal against removing Musharraf’s name from the ECL. It claimed that the federal government could not take the risk of allowing the former president to leave the country due to the incentive he had to flee in view of a treason case that involved the death penalty.
