National policy on violence against women being formulated

Islamabad- The government is formulating a national policy on violence against women. According to reports the Ministry of Law, Justice and Human Rights is framing the policy in consultation with the provincial governments.
About the steps being taken for the protection of women rights, the officials said the Punjab government has proposed amendment in Poisons Act to discourage acid throwing incidents on women and acid throwing is being dealt with under anti-terrorism laws. A provincial board of Acid Burns Survivors and a Fund is being established in Punjab to recommend specialized medical and psychological care for the victims.
