RENALA KHURD - The residents of hundred of villages here in the Tehsil have been deprived of clean drinking water and they are compelled to take contaminated and not-fit-for human consumption water. While the situation is very abject in Chak 1/L /1 A/L which has been causing multiple diseases among people in these areas. As per detail, in Tehsil Renala Khurd the residents of about hundred villages are forced to drink water contaminated to the extent which even cattle hesitate to drink. The main source of water for the villagers is canal which is not only contaminated but also toxic-laden as a number of factories dispose off their effluents into the canal. The phenomenon has been causing various diseases among people, especially the water-borne. On the other hand, the absence of drink water also exposes the inefficiency and dereliction on part of the government, especially the elected representatives who have miserably failed to provided residents of these villages with potable water, leave alone provision of other civic facilities. The poor people demand the Punjab Chief Minister to take notice of the worst situation and order immediate steps to ensure drinking water to people. They also demanded the Punjab government to take a stern action against the district department concerned for the criminal negligence
