Police book 3 persons on charges of kidnapping, torturing WASA team

Rawalpindi-Sadiqabad police have booked three persons on charges of torturing the officials of Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) during an illegal confinement, informed sources on Tuesday.
The accused have been identified as Adnan, Kamran and Amir. However, no arrest was made so far by the police, they added. 
According to details, a team of WASA officials of Recovery Department, led by Assistant Director Akmal, visited Imam Bargah Road in Sadiqabad to take action against defaulters of Rs 130,000. However, the owners and staffers of commercial property picked up the officials and confined them illegally. 
They said the kidnappers placed the WASA officials under severe torture and hurled threats of dire consequences at them. Later, the kidnappers released the abducted officials of WASA after intervention of some influential of area, sources said.
AD WASA Akmal lodged complaint with PS Sadiqabad against kidnappers and sought legal action against them. Taking action, the police registered case against accused and started investigation. Raids are being carried out to arrest the accused.
Meanwhile, WASA Managing Director (MD) Raja Shaukat Mehmood condemned the vegabondism of some elements and asked CPO Muhammad Ahsan Younas to arrest the culprits involved in heinous crime.
He said the officials of WASA would not bow before any kind of pressure during recovery drive being launched on directions of Chairman and DG WASA/RDA Tariq Murtaza and Capt (R) Abdul Sattar Isani. He said he along with other senior officers are standing along with victim officials of WASA and would take every possible step to get the accused punished as per law.
