SC orders reposting of honest FIA investigator

ISLAMABAD - The Supreme Court on Friday once again ordered the Establishment Division secretary to bring back Hussain Asghar, an investigator officer of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), to the Hajj scandal probe. FIA Director Hussain Asghar, who had been investigating the Hajj corruption case to the satisfaction of the court and had collected important evidence against the accused, was transferred and posted as Gilgit-Baltistan inspector general of police (IGP) after FIA DG Malik Iqbal wrote to the interior ministry. The chief justice asked the Establishment Division Secretary Rauf Chaudhry if Hussain Asghar could simultaneously serve in both positions, GB IGP and FIA investigator, like that of FIA Additional DG Zafar Quresshi. Qureshi before his removal from National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) scandal case was Police Foundation MD and investigating officer at NICL case at the same time. Rauf Chaudhry informed the court that Syed Javed Bukhari, who was supervisor in Hajj scandal but was later transferred to Anti-Narcotics Force as deputy director, has been made OSD. A five-member larger bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and comprising Justice Javed Iqbal, Justice Nasirul Mulk, Justice Tariq Pervez and Justice Amir Hani Muslim was hearing a suo moto regarding corruption in Hajj arrangements in 2010. FIA DG submitted the report but the court expressed dissatisfaction over the progress in Hajj scam.
