Covid-19 test positivity rate touches 46.58pc in Karachi

KARACHI - Coronavirus positivity rate in provincial capital of Sindh, Karachi has risen to record level of 46.58 percent as country faces fifth wave of the deadly virus fueled by Omicron variant.
According to a report on Friday, 3739 new cases of coronavirus have surfaced in Karachi. The positivity ratio in Islamabad has been recorded as 18.91 percent while 6 percent was reported in Hyderabad. On the other hand, Pakistan has reported 23 deaths in the last 24 hours by novel coronavirus as the number of positive cases has surged to 1,353,479. The nationwide tally of fatalities has jumped to 29,065. According to the latest figures by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), 7,678 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. Punjab remains the worst-hit province in terms of deaths followed by Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. 516,874 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Sindh, 458,879 in Punjab, 183,403 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 115,047 in Islamabad, 34,997 in Azad Kashmir, 33,812 in Balochistan and 10,467 in Gilgit-Baltistan. Pakistan has so far conducted 24,415,716 coronavirus tests and 59,343 in the last 24 hours. 1,265,665 patients have recovered in the country whereas 961 patients are in critical condition.
