Argentine keen to boost trade relations with Pakistan

FAISALABAD - Argentine wants to boost bilateral ties with Pakistan while its embassy would issue business visa within ten working days, said Argentinean Ambassador Rodolfo Martin Saravia during a meeting with FCCI office-bearers and business community, wherein a large number of exporters and industrialist were also present on the occasion. He further added that Pakistan is a big producer of milk and meat; in this regard joint ventures could be started for the processing of meat on international standards. He also appreciated the textile sector which is contributing in economic development of Pakistan. He stressed to work jointly for the betterment of trade relations. He also urged to develop the agriculture as well as dairy sector. A trade mission is also proposed to enhance the trade ties of both sides. Earlier in his welcome address President FCCI Muzammil Sultan said that Faisalabad alone has been contributing about 40pc of the total textile exports of the country. There is tremendous trade potential between the two countries. It is pertinent to mention that the two countries have well established trade links. Both countries maintain a Joint Economic Committee and the Pak-Argentina Business Council, in order to excel perpetual growth in bilateral economic activities. He hoped that the agreement signed by Pakistan and Argentine will ultimately lead to free trade agreement. He further added that Argentina is Pakistans important trading partner but still it is far below the potential and there is a wider scope of cooperation to enhance our bilateral trade. In fiscal year 2009-10 bilateral trade stood at $14 .88 million in favour of Argentina. Argentina exported $55.48 million worth of goods to our country while Pakistans exports stood at $40.59 million. During the meeting Deputy Head of Mission Argentine Eduardo Bustamante was also present. During question answer session, FCCI former President Khawaja Asem Khurshed, Vice President, Engr Sohail bin Rashid, Ch Asghar Ali and Ch Jameel Ahmad also highlighted issues before the Ambassador. At the end of meeting Vice President, FCCI Rehan Naseem Bharara offered vote of thanks, whereby member FCCI Mian Muhammad Aness presented the FCCI memento to ambassador.
