3,000 students to receive training for women empowerment

ISLAMABAD - More than 3,000 underprivileged female students would receive professional and technical training here at Federal Government College of Home Economics, Management Sciences & Specialised Discipline, F-11/1, to promote women empowerment.
Project Director Kauser Beig briefed Barrister Usman Ibrahim, minister of state for Capital Administration & Development Division (CADD), on Monday about the new project.  The minister discussed the PC-I of the project with the project director. This project was approved in November last and the total estimated cost of the project is more than Rs 3 billion out of which Rs 500 million will be funded by the government of Pakistan under Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) while Rs 200 million would be provided in year 2014-15 and the rest of the funding would be done through the foreign sources for which a request has been made to the economic affairs division.
The curriculum for BS, MS & PhD programmes is designed by the Higher Education Commission (HEC). The minister commended the initiative of giving 100 scholarships for MS/PhD by international universities in various fields of home economics.
The minister said more than 3,000 underprivileged female students to receive professional and technical training for women empowerment and round 3,000 other female students acquiring diplomas and certificates in various fields of home economics would help women become self-sufficient.
There would be five academic blocks; each block would contain labs, library, lecture halls, seminar room, and research centres, etc. Specialised disciplines would include art and design department, architecture, food & nutrition, interior & environmental design department and public health department.
Right to education is the right of every human regardless of his/her gender and class, said the minister. He further added that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is very much interested in this extraordinary project as this institution has various specialised disciplines to train women in technical and professional fields, which is the need of the hour. To make sure that the project is completed as soon as possible he gave directives to the concerned officials.
