Seminar on breast cancer

LAHORE – The University of Health Sciences (UHS) is organising an international seminar on breast cancer on Thursday (Feb 7).
Noted surgeons from UK including Dr Penelope Louise McManus, consultant oncoplastic breast surgeon, and Dr Muhammad Riaz, consultant plastic surgeon from Hull & East Yorkshire Hospital, UK, will be the guest speakers.  The theme of the seminar is “Surgical Management of Breast Cancer:
Current Practices”. It will discuss in detail the surgical management of breast cancer as recommended by the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN), USA, and as per the current practices in UK.
UHS Director, Centre for Innovation in Learning and Teaching (CILT), Dr Arif Rasheed Khawaja, who is arranging this seminar, said the seminar would be beneficial for the Pakistani surgeons as not only it would train them in the recent advances and techniques in breast cancer surgery but would also provide them with an opportunity to interact with the experts and share their local problems. He further said that breast cancer in Pakistan is the commonest cancer among women and has a different pattern as compared to other countries as it usually affects younger women in the country. He stressed the need for implementing same practices and techniques in the surgical management of the disease as were being used in the advanced countries.
