RAWALPINDI - Government Girls High School (GGHS) Bahari Colony, Muslim Town, has been under the alleged control of eve-teasers and the situation irritates the faculty members as well as young female students.
The vagabonds often come inside the school by jumping over the school's boundary walls and go on the school rooftop, tease young female students and threaten administration. The parents are reluctant to send their daughters to school to keep them safe from the eve-teasers.
Despite several complaints, police and elected representatives of the constituency -- MNA Imran Khan of PTI and PML-N MPA Raja Muhammad Hanif Advocate -- are taking no action against the vagabonds, said Senior Headmistress Naeema Rahna while talking to a group of journalists here on Monday.
A girls' representative, who flanked the headmistress, also threatened of surrounding the offices of commissioner Rawalpindi and regional police officer (RPO) by 1,700 girls students of the school if action was not taken against the eve-teasers.
Naeema said that several incidents of eve-teasing were reported to Police Station Sadiqabad officials but they were hesitating to take action against the accused. She said that the vagabonds, mostly in shape of groups riding on motorcycles without number plates, chased the girls after school time and passed comments. "They don't scare from teasing students even in the presence of their parents," she said.
Sharing a shameful incident that took place some days ago, she said that a driver of school van asked a group of eve-teasers to give him way but the boys pulled out the key from ignition of his van and started quarrelling with him. The driver hardly escaped, she added.
"Many girls do not attend their classes to avoid the eve-teasers," the headmistress said. Even schoolteachers were not safe from the clutches of these young rotten eggs, she added. The Nation also talked to some of the girls who had become the victims of eve-teasing.
According to a group of girls, they went to a policeman with their complaint against three boys. "He did not take any action against them and instead of reprimanding those guys, he started arguing with us," a girl said.
Another girl requesting anonymity said, "I along with my friend was going towards the house after ending classes when three boys on bike started chasing us. They passed comments and tried to give a piece of paper to us. No body is here to rescue us. It was disgusting. Police should take action against these vagabonds."
"This is unacceptable. We all the girls will stage sit-in outside the offices of RPO and commissioner if police and politicians do not stop these gangs," said a large number of girls.
The commissioner and RPO were not available for their comments when this scribe contacted them.
