ECP exempts candidates from personal appearance

ISLAMABAD  – The Election Commission of Pakistan on Monday exempted candidates from appearance at the time of filing nomination papers.
According to reports, the Law Ministry had forwarded the amendment bill, passed by parliament to the ECP. As per the approved bill, the presence of candidates is not necessary at the time of submitting nomination papers.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has also asked political parties to submit their priority lists of candidates contesting against reserved seats for women and minorities with the Provincial Election Commissioners by March 29.
The priority list should be sent to the Returning Officer on the letterhead of the party duly signed by a
senior member of the party. The priority list received by the Returning Officer would be published in the official gazette and no change would be made in the list once received.
