Services Chiefs take stock of emerging challenges

ISLAMABAD (APP) - The Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee on Saturday undertook comprehensive review of national security situation by taking stock of the evolving internal and external challenges and the contemplated response. The deliberations specifically focused on the ongoing Army exercise 'AZME-NAU-III, which has entered the final phase and reviewed the state of preparedness of the armed forces, during the meeting held at Joint Staff Headquarters Chaklala, an ISPR news release said. The meeting chaired by General Tariq Majid, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, was attended by Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Noman Bashir, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman, secretary Defence, DG Inter Services Intelligence, DG Strategic Plans, DG Joint Staff and other senior military officials from the three services. The Army field exercise of massive magnitude combined with next phase of PAF exercise 'HIGH MARK is being held after almost two decades, in order to practically validate the new 'War Fighting Concept. The committee also dwelled on the successful continuation of operations in Fata and Swat, where considerable space has been created for the commencement of development works, which are already underway. The Chairman JCSC and the Services Chiefs expressed satisfaction on the armed forces state of preparedness and had a detailed discussion on various measures for effectively dealing with the security challenges confronting the country.
