Ten teams to appear in Lahore Open Polo C’ship

LAHORE – The country’s best polo players, drawn in 10 teams, are showcasing their talent in the Bank of Punjab (BoP) endorsed Lahore Open Polo Championship here at the Lahore Polo Club (LPC).
LPC president Abdul Haye Mehta said here on Monday at a news conference along with Group Head Operations BoP Kamran Ali and Group Head Human Resource Maughes Bokhari.
Mehta said the event had its own significance as top polo players of the country were participating in it and high quality polo in the event. “It is for the third successive year that Bank of Punjab is sponsoring this event” he said.
He said efforts were on to turn Lahore Polo Club in a most modern polo facility in the country by improving existing facilities of riding school, grounds and infrastructure.
“Our future plans focus on adding squash courts, swimming pool and other sports facilities to make it a modern club which is also available for other than polo and horse riding activities,” he asserted.
He praised the contribution of the sponsors and said it would go a long way in the further popularizing polo among youth. “We are making gradual progress in the development of polo and it is heartening sign that our junior polo league is being participated by around 200 aspiring riders who are committed to take up polo as a sport in future.”
Kamran Ali of BOP said their association with polo was getting stronger with each passing day as they were sponsoring this event on regular basis. “BOP is playing its due role for building a healthy society and we are patronizing a number of sports other than polo to keep engage youth in constructive activities,” he said.
