Mirwaiz re-elected as APHC chief

ISLAMABAD (APP) - Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has been elected as the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference for the next term of two years. He was elected by consensus of all voting members at a meeting of APHC Executive Committee in Srinagar, today, KMS reported. After his election, the APHC Chairman told media men that the Hurriyat would continue the liberation struggle with full force and India would not be able to intimidate Kashmiri leadership into submission. He appealed Kashmiri people to observe Friday as Kashmir and Qudus Day. Meanwhile, senior Kashmiri Hurriyat leader, Syed Ali Geelani continued to remain under house arrest on Monday and the authorities did not allow visitors to meet him. Massive protest demonstrations were held after killing of a 65-year-old handicapped civilian in police custody in Rajouri. The troops thrashed a civilian at Gulshanpura in Tral, which also sparked forceful anti-India protests in the area. Hundreds of people took out a procession at Rajwar in Handwara against Indian state terrorism.
