Unlawful transfer of CCB tax inspectors

RAWALPINDI
As many as 12 tax inspectors of Tax Branch of Cannt Cantonment Board (CCB) have been transferred without brining into notice of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the civic body.
Additional Executive Officer Shakeel Jhappa and Tax Department Superintendent Sardar Raffique have transferred these 12 Tax Officers without getting approval or bringing the matter into notice of CCB CEO Faheem Zafar, who otherwise has authority to transfer and posting of his subordinates, reliable sources revealed to The Nation on Thursday. This blunder sparked unrest among the officers and employees of CCB, sources added.
“With this step of AEO and Superintendent, a situation on uncertainty is prevailing in all the departments of CCB that how can junior officers transfer such a big numbers of inspectors that too without official approval of CEO at a time when tax collection targets yet to be achieved”, sources said adding that CCB Tax Department has set target of collection of Rs 480 million tax till 30 September, 2014. Now, it would be difficult to achieve such a huge target in absence of tax inspectors, sources said.
Those tax inspectors who have been transferred by Superintendent apparently misusing their powers included Afzal Gondal, Mujtaba Shah, Ameer Rehman, Lal Niazi, Shehzad Ahmed, Ijaz and Arslan etc. Sources expressed fear that transfers of these inspectors would hamper tax collection campaign of CCB.
CCB CEO Faheem Zafar, however, when approached, expressed his complete unawareness about any such move in CCB. When told the saga, CEO said he would look into the matter and would get back to this scribe. He said that transferring any tax inspector from one desk to another desk over poor performance was a routine exercise in CCB.
When asked has AEO or Superintendent informed him prior or got his approval before issuing transfer orders of such a big numbers of inspector, CEO remained tight lipped and requested this scribe to SMS him the lists of 12 tax inspectors so that he could inquire the matter and present his official version.
