Varsity holds lecture on women rights





RAWALPINDI - A lecture on “Constitutional Rights of Women in Pakistan” was organised by Department of Communication and Media Studies on Wednesday at Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU).
On the occasion, Barrister Amna Bano was the guest speaker while FJWU DCMS Chairperson Dr Shamim Zaidi, Controller Examination Dr Mussarat Anwer Sheikh, DCMS lecturer Ms Shazia Hashmat, heads of other departments and a large number of students also attended the lecture.
Barrister Amna Bano, in her talk, highlighted the difference between law and Constitution. She explained the different articles related to the rights of women in the Constitution 1973 of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the audience.
She also discussed the Hadood and Sharia Law in her lecture. She said that the problem with our society was that our old norms and values were still in practice.
“The women rights are not considered as human rights and still violated, their decisions are not taken in to consideration” Barrister Bano said. She was of the view that women were valuable asset of the society.
She said that destroying something was very easy but building something taken time. She discussed the role of civil sector and NGOs fighting for the rights of women.
The question answer session was quiet interactive and students participated actively.
Ms Shazia Hashmat, lecturer in DCMS, gave vote of thanks.
She said that such informative lectures must be organized to increase the students’ vision and knowledge.
At the end, Controller Examination Dr Musarrat Anwar Sheikh, who is also the Chairperson of Education Department, presented the university souvenir to the guest as a token of appreciation.
