QUETTA - Frontier Corps (FC) Balochistan seized nearly 14 tonnes of chemicals, key ingredients in bomb-making, from Aktherabad area in the outskirts of Quetta on Sunday.Talking to media persons, FC Spokesman Murtaza Baig said that the FC, acting on a tip- off, recovered 13,900 kg Ammonium chloride, Sulphur chloride and Potassium chlorate from a local bus in Akhtarabad of Quetta.He said bus, leaving for Nushki District from Quetta, was fully loaded with blankets and edibles stuff and under that they dumped the chemicals. “This material is used in heavy explosion,” he said.He said that the Anti-Narcotics Force and Bomb Disposable Squad declared that these chemicals were used in heavy explosive materials. “Around five people including the driver travelling in the passenger coach were arrested,” he said. FC spokesman said that accused belonged to the Nushki district. The accused were handed over to the Shal Kot Police Station for investigation.Agencies add: The haul was made when officials acting on a tip-off stopped a bus just outside Quetta city loaded with the volatile substance hidden under cartons of food, an official with the paramilitary force said.Frontier Corps Captain Johar Sarwar said, “The substance was hidden in sacks under various food items.” Frontier Corps spokesman Murtaza Baig confirmed the haul and said the substance was so dangerous that only a simple detonator was needed to make a deadly device.He said bomb disposal officers were summoned to check for detonators, but they found none.Balochistan province is frequently hit by bomb attacks.The oil and gas-rich area borders Iran and Afghanistan, and suffers from sectarian violence, attacks by Taliban militants and a tribal insurgency. Baloch rebels rose up in 2004, demanding political autonomy and a greater share of profits from the region’s mineral resources.
