'Diplomats undeterred

SIKANDER SHAHEEN ISLAMABAD - The cowardly acts of a few unscrupulous criminal elements cannot deter the diplomatic community from performing its duties in Pakistan, Danish Ambassador to Pakistan, Jens Jacob Simonsen told The Nation on Wednesday. He was sharing views after this scribe telephonically contacted him in the wake of Tuesdays unfortunate incident that left the senior diplomat deprived of his wallet at the hands of impostors outside a shopping mall in Sector F-6. Pakistan is a wonderful country and I have profound regards for the people of Pakistan. The deplorable acts of a few unwanted and notorious elements cannot change my opinion. I would keep striving my best for improving the already cordial relations between Denmark and Pakistan, he said. Such incidents can never unnerve our resolve to do better for Pakistan and Denmark, the diplomat added. He hoped that the local law enforcement agencies would apprehend the culprits as soon as possible. A case has been registered in the police station concerned and Im sure those guys would be behind the bars very soon, the Danish Envoy said adding that the local police were co-operating with the Danish Embassy in this regard. Sharing the details of the incident, Simonsen said that he was driving himself home after having shopped from a shopping mall in Super Market when his vehicle was intercepted by four unidentified impostors who introduced themselves as police offices and asked him to prove his identity. All four of them were carrying police badges. I told them Im a diplomat but they asked me to prove my identity. I brought my wallet out, and I was about to show them my diplomatic card when they snatched it and sped away, he said. The incident occurred within no time and left the diplomat in a state of shock. I think it was unwise of me to show them my credentials but it happened all of a sudden and I wasnt expecting this at all, he said. The lost wallet of the Ambassador had cash in Pakistani and foreign currencies and credit cards in it.
