State organs fail to provide justice: Justice Javed

ISLAMABAD Most of the departments of the state have failed to deliver justice, which the nation is expecting from them, as everyone is approaching the Supreme Court as a Hobsons choice hoping for immediate justice, remarked Justice Javed Iqbal here on Thursday. The apex court took suo moto against such elements (which were not mentioned by Justice Javed) under the prescribed limits, which preserved in the Constitution of 1973, Justice Javed said while commenting on the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court regarding suo moto notice taken on issue of the judges appointment last month. He was talking a delegation of the National School of Public Policy, which called on him at the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court is the highest court of the state having ample authority to set aside the decisions, which violate the Constitution deliberately. We are the custodian of the Constitution, he said and added, We are duty bound to preserve and protect the Constitution and perform our duties under the oath. Justice Javed further said that the people had great expectations from the judiciary, which could only be fulfilled by addressing their grievances. We are working for the four things that include supremacy of the Constitution, rule of law, preservation of democratic system and strengthening of the institutions, he added. He also praised the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on taking bold decisions, saying that he is the symbol of bravery and boldness not only in country but all over the world. Chief Justice is the person, who changed the course of the history, Justice Javed further said. Earlier, Additional Registrar of the apex court, Qazi Sajid Mehmood welcomed the delegation and briefed them about the judicial system of Pakistan, composition and jurisdiction of the high courts, the Federal Shariat Court and the Supreme Court. The participants presented a shield to Justice Javed on behalf of the National School of Public Policy as token of remembrance while he (Javed) also presented a shield to them.
