Sarai Alamgir

Sarai Alamgir or Sara E Alamgir is a tehsil of Gujarat district. Sarai Alamgir is located on the Central GT Road and on the east bank of the Jhelum River. The population of Sarai Alamgir is close to 60,000. The history of this region is very old from the time of Indus Valley Civilization and Gandhara Civilization. The battle of Hydaspes took place nearby, between the army of Alexander the Great and Raja Porus. The Mughal emperor Aurangzeb Alamgir built an inn (hotel) on this place. So after the name of this king, a city was established there, Sarai Alamgir.

MCJ (Military College Jhelum) is also located in this inn. The college was established as “King George V Royal Indian Military School” on March 3rd, 1922. Rohtas Fort is a very popular place for tourists.

Many such historic buildings and ruins are in ruins around Gujarat. The Grand Trunk Road, also known as the “GT Road”, was built by Sher Shah Suri and passes through Gujarat. It still exists today. Gujarat is a very beautiful city and I have seen before at the University of Gujarat that no one can like a guitar-shaped building.

It is hoped that the government will soon come up with the idea of building a road to Gujarat.

IRFAN SHAREEF,

Dera Ghazi Khan.
