E&T Dept collects over Rs570m property tax

LAHORE - Punjab Excise and Taxation (E&T) Department has collected more than Rs 570 million in the head of property tax in Region A in city, said an officer of E&T here on Friday.
He said that government has fixed Rs 900 million as property tax target for the current year and E&T property tax department has collected Rs570 million so far. An officer said that Director General has cancelled the leaves of E&T staff and all staff remains present on Sunday also. “We are working even after office timing and remain present by 8:00 pm in office to complete the recovery of property tax. By the end of December we would be able to collect Rs. 600 million and by the end of fiscal year 100 percent tax target would be achieved, said AETO. He said that Lahore Gymkhana management is defaulter of Rs. 18.9 million and its case was lying with Revision Authority after Director E&T has rejected the plea of Gymkhana management. Aiwan-e-Mashriq building is liable to pay Rs 7 million while Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education will have to pay Rs. 3.6 million and its case was with Lahore High Court. On Friday also E&T team sealed certain premises in the Region A. Owners of the buildings were not paying property tax despite repeated notice by the E&T management.
