Lawyers offer Nawafil-e-Shukrana

LAHORE - Lawyers on Tuesday continued their celebrations on the restoration of judiciary, offered Nawafil-e-Shukrana (thanks-giving-prayer) and distributed sweets in bar associations. Some jubilant lawyers also came out on roads to share their victory with public. Member Pakistan Bar Council Hafiz Abdul Rehman Ansari led the thank-giving-prayer in Lahore High Court. Later, lawyers offered dua for the prosperity of judiciary and the country. A delegation of Jamat-e-Islami led by Liaquat Baloch and Farid Piracha also visited LHCBA and congratulated the lawyers on their victory. The activists of PML-N and Tehrik-e-Insaf also joined lawyers' celebrations. The jubilant lawyers and political workers distributed sweets and danced on the beats of drums. They congratulated the whole nation for the restoration of judiciary. President LHCBA Justice (r) MA Shahid Siddiqi speaking on the occasion said that thanked to leaderships of PML-N, Tehreek-e-Insaf, Jamat-e-Islami and other parties for joining the lawyer's movement. He also thanked to the masses to support lawyers' movement for the establishment of independent judiciary and rule of law in country. He said the day of March-16 will be remembered in history as the "independence of judiciary day". He said now every citizen will get justice without any discrimination as by the restoration of independent judiciary the confidence of nation was also restored. Later, the representatives of bar visited the restored judges of LHC including Justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif and Justice Iqbal Hameed-ur-Rehman. They presented them flower bouquets and congratulated them on their reinstatement. Meanwhile, celebrations over the restoration of deposed judges are continuing throughout the country with the participation of people from all walks of life on second consecutive day. The restoration of judiciary has been celebrated even in the tribal areas where people expressed their hopes that independent judges will check the drone attacks. The jubilations were not confined to the Bar but they also reached even to the native village, Faisalabad of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. Like the D-day on March 16, mounds of sweets were distributed at the Bar by the traders, business community, students, PML-N workers and PTI activists at educational institutions, labourer hall, hospitals, JI, PML-N and PTI media offices and even at the level of street and mohalla. Everyone with a smiling face appeared trying to take a lead to congratulate others on this victory. Drums beating and dance continued while congratulation SMS mail remained unabated even on Tuesday. People at every level and of every class anxiously waited for the notification from the law ministry for putting the judges back to the offices. The atmosphere was quite relaxed and the people felt every thing coming correct under the umbrella of independent judiciary. Which indeed is what the masses expect of it not as a matter of constitutional and legal requirement but also as a just reward of their struggle, commented former Member Punjab Bar Council Atir Mahmood. Outside the residence of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry a large number of people had gathered to greet him on his return to the office but a few were allowed entry by the tight security placed there. Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan went to congratulate him along with his family while through his spokesman, Athar Minallah, it was conveyed to others that now demand of the CJ office did not permit him meeting with the private public and those whose cases were pending before the court. Students of Jamia Hafsa were also denied meeting on the same plea. Security outside the CJP residence was beefed up and his office was equipped with the necessary protocol. The huge gathering outside the residence only once saw the CJP waving to them from the balcony. In City, the restored judges received congratulations but they did not come up in the public. In the City bars, it was rejoicing everywhere. Lawyers and others chanted slogans on the victory of their cause and struggle. Different delegations visited the bars and presented flowers and sweets to the community. With glowing faces, lawyers and everyone was showing a tremendous confidence and oozed out a satisfaction carrying in the mind the picture of a very bright future of the country. In the City markets, bhangra, sweets distribution, and exchange of greetings remained in order. At some places in the Punjab, food was also served to the poor to thank Allah Almighty for the great success given by Him to the entire Pakistani community.
