KARACHI – Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed on Saturday invited UK-based investors and international firms to invest in Pakistan so that the people could avail job opportunities with the promotion of local trade and economy.
During a meeting with the ruling Conservative Party Co-Chairperson Baroness Saeeda Warsi at her office in the United Kingdom, the administrator said that Pakistan, especially the city of Karachi, had a lot of potential for foreign investment and that they were offered lucrative profit.
Members of the Pak-Britain Pro-Business Investment Forum, the UK State Investment, the Bradford University leading businessmen and government officials from England and Pakistan High Commissioner Wajid Shamsul Hasan were present on the occasion.
The KMC administrator told them that besides being a port city, Karachi also held the status of an international city, with millions of people from business community and trade and industrial sectors being its regular visitors.
In the last decade, many international brands and multinational companies launched their outlets in the city and were now running successfully, he added.
About development in Karachi, the administrator said the infrastructure development in Karachi was in an advanced stage. “The city is all set to have a circular railway system by the mid of 2013. Besides, work on a rapid bus transit system and construction of new corridors is also in progress,” he told the Conservative Party co-chairperson.
In her views, Saeeda Warsi observed that Pakistan was a developing country, where investment could be made in various sectors, including education, health, industry and trade. She assured KMC Administrator Hussain Syed and other Pakistani delegates of all possible cooperation for the promotion of trade and industry in Pakistan.
“I would feel pleased on investment in Pakistan by UK-based investors,” she said while adding, “This would also help in raising the standard of life of the local people.” There was no dearth of talent in Pakistan and that talented youths could get success in each and every sector, Warsi noted as she called on Pakistan women to play active role in the commercial and social activities as they comprised half of the country’s whole population.
