100 uplift schemes for Karachi

KARACHI  - Administrator Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Rauf Akhtar Farooqui on Wednesday said that KMC has decided to include more than 100 uplift schemes worth over Rs13billion in upcoming fiscal year 2014-15 including construction of seven flyovers and three major roads in different areas of the metropolis.
While addressing a review meeting at KMC headquarters, the Administrator urged officers to play active role in the completion of development schemes within the scheduled time and finalise all uplift schemes and submit the final documents by 15th May.
During the meeting officials of concern departments were given detail briefing on the current development projects and planning for next financial year.
Administrator KMC said the development projects for next financial year should be planned in accordance with the actual needs of the city so that all areas of the city could get development activities on equal basis.
He added that KMC would start work on the 6th signal free corridor of Karachi during the next financial year which include the construction of 4 flyovers and reconstruction of roads and beautification works on a corridor from Sher Shah Suri Road, Board Office to Nagan Chowrangi, Board Office Chowrangi, KDA Chowrangi, Water Pump Chowrangi and Sakhi Hasan Chowrangi whereas other flyovers will be built on two swords roundabout Clifton, Chowdhry Khaliq-uz-Zaman Road, Punjab Chowrangi, and Korangi Crossing.
He further said reconstruction and repairing of Sharah-e-Faisal from Mehran Hotel till Jinnah Terminal and Tariq Road were also planned for next fiscal year along with the channelization of drains and more than 20 street lights schemes.
Administrator Karachi said KMC spends huge sums on health care and municipal facilities in Karachi therefore; officers must take ground realities under consideration while planning for uplift works and give preference to urgent needs of the city.
He said that the government was ready to give all possible funds if officers work hard and give full attention to the projects and revive the tradition of completion of development works on time.  In the meeting acting financial advisor Munawwar Imam, Director General Technical Services Niaz Ahmed Soomro, Director CSR Muhammad Rehan Khan, Senior Director Health Dr Salma Kausar, Senior Director Transport & Communication Muhammad Athar and other were also present.
