LAHORE - There is dire need to upgrade Pakistani cinema through which the plight of common man can be highlighted and bettered, stated Governor of the Punjab Chaudhary Muhammed Sarwar while addressing the launching ceremony of book “Misrepresentation of Culture in Pakistan Cinema” at Governor House here on Monday.
The governor stressed upon the need of using the medium of cinema for the cultural revival of Pakistan which had been stained by intolerance and extremism.
Speaking on the occasion provincial minister for social welfare Begum Zakia Shahnawaz praised the work of Pakistani film makers who according to her were second to none.
Veteran human rights activist IA Rehman stressed upon the need to rewrite the history of Pakistan from a people’s perspective and that film could play an important role in this regard.
Film star Shan said that it was a great encouragement to see that a new research work on Pakistani cinema has been published and that it will benefit new comers in the field of film .
On the occasion, acclaimed film director Syed Noor said that instead of demanding a ban on Pakistani films better films should be made competing with the world market.
Earlier, author of the book Dr Amjad Ayub Mirza said that Pakistan should not follow fake cultural trends depicted in Bollywood cinema.
He suggested that Punjab Film Council should be established in order to provide financial and technological assistance to filmmakers in Punjab. The book was a brief history of Pakistani film industry authored by Dr Amjad Ayub Mirza.
