Heavy showers mar Sunday Bazaars sale

LAHORE - Heavy downpour on Sunday morning marred the Sunday Bazaars sale here in the City due to lack of sanitation and dewatering arrangements, causing inconvenience to the shopkeepers and shoppers. Most of the Sunday Bazaars witnessed very low turnout in the morning though people in a great number rushed to these bazaars in the afternoon. On the other hand, the prices of fruit and vegetables registered a surging trend this week compared to the last week. The livestock department of the City District Government Lahore this weak again, failed to provide relief in chicken meat price. The price of chicken meat in Sunday Bazaars was Rs 110 per-kg while in open market it was sold at Rs 108 per kilogram. However, this week price of chicken meat in Sunday Bazaar was reduced again by Rs 8 per kilogram from previous week price of Rs 118 per kilogram. The rates of potatoes (new) gained by Rs 8 per kilogram and fixed at Rs 15 to Rs 28 per kilogram from last week price of Rs 15 to Rs 20 per kilogram. The vendors had been selling B-grade potatoes at Rs 25 per kilogram. The vendors have been selling after washing old potatoes at new price. In open market potato (new) was sold at Rs 28 per kilogram. No vendor in any Sunday Bazaar sold lower quality potatoes (new) at Rs 15 per kilogram. According to the officials of market committee, the lowest price of potato of Rs 15 per kilogram was not more than eyewash. It is impossible for vendors to sell potato (new) at Rs 15 per kilogram, he added. Official price of potato (stored) was also up by Rs 2 per kilogram and was fixed at Rs 10 to Rs 14 per kilogram from Rs 10 to Rs 12 per kilogram. Surging trend was also witnessed in onion price by Rs one per kilogram and fixed at Rs 9 to Rs 12 per kilogram as compared to the last week price of Rs 8 to Rs 11 per kilogram. A sharp increase of Rs 7 to Rs 12 per kilogram was recorded in tomato price this week. The price of Tomato was Rs 15 to Rs 22 per kilogram as compared to the last week price of Rs 8 to Rs 10 per kilogram. In open market the price of tomato was Rs 2 per kilogram, thus there is no difference between open market and Sunday bazaar price. Garlic (desi) was sold at Rs 15 to Rs 20 per kilogram and Garlic (Chinese) was available at Rs 18 to Rs 20 per kilogram. Ginger (China) price was up by Rs 6 to Rs 7 per kilogram and fixed at Rs 60 to Rs 65 per kilogram from last week price of Rs 54 to Rs 58 per kilogram, while Ginger (Burma) was available at Rs 40 to Rs 42 per kilogram from previous week price of Rs 38 to Rs 40 per kilogram. Price of Cucumber (Desi) gained by Re one to Rs 2 per kilogram and fixed Rs 15 to Rs 20 per kilogram from previous week price of Rs 14 to Rs 18 per kilogram. Ladyfinger price also gained by Rs 6 to Rs 8 per kilogram and fixed Rs 16 to Rs 20 per kilogram as compared to the last week Rs 10 to Rs 12 per kilogram. Bitter Gourd price was gained by Rs 5 to Rs 6 per kilogram and fixed at Rs 15 to Rs 20 per kilogram as compared to the last week price of Rs 10 to Rs 12 per kilogram. Green chilies price was also increased by Rs 3 to Rs 8 per kilogram and fixed at Rs 15 to Rs 18 per kilogram from the last week price of Rs 10 to Rs 12 per kilogram. Lemons price was fixed at Rs 30 to Rs 45 per kilogram from last week price of Rs 25 to Rs 40 per kilogram registering an increase of Rs 5 per kilogram. The price of different variety of apples has varied from Rs 55 to Rs 164 per kilogram. The price of different variety of mangoes was Rs 24 to Rs 54 per kilogram. Banana price was Rs 15 to Rs 60 per dozen.
