Gullu on 14-day remand trip

LAHORE: An Anti-Terrorism Court on Saturday sent Gullu Butt to jail on judicial remand for his involvement in smashing private vehicles outside Minhajul Quran Secretariat in Model Town.
A police officer told the court that the club and pistol used by the suspect for smashing the cars and aerial firing had been recovered. He said that further custody of the suspect was not required.–Staff Reporter
The judge accepted his plea and sent the suspect to jail on 14-day physical remand, directing police to submit challan of the case within the stipulated time.
Gullu Butt, however, also filed his post-arrest bail application. Upon which, the judge issued notice to Faisal Town police and sought complete record of the case. Proceedings adjourned till July 22.
Meanwhile, the court extended pre-arrest interim bail of city’s SP security Salman Ali Khan and his gunman Abid till July 26. The investigators told the court that the both SP and the gunman had joined the investigation and cooperated with the interrogators. The SP, in his bail petition, pleaded that he had directions from high-ups to join in the operation. He denied having given shooting orders to cops.  The officer stated that he was being dragged into the case baselessly.
The court extended the bail and directed the authorities to submit a report on next hearing after completing investigation.
In a related hearing, the court extended physical remand of five cops for their alleged involvement in carrying out shooting outside Minhajul Quran Secretariat in Model Town on June 17.
The Faisal Town police produced Sabzazar SHO Sheikh Amir Saleem, Elite force Inspector Hafiz Athar, three constables Naveed, Kashif and Khurram before the court. The investigating officer stated that further custody of the suspect-cops was required to complete investigation. The court admitted the request and extended the remand of the suspect for next seven days.

Nawa-i-Waqt fund
LAHORE: The Nawa-i-Waqt fund for the stranded Pakistanis in Bangladesh has received a donation of Rs55,000.
Malik Rasheed from Talagang and Muhammad Arshad from Multan donated Rs10000 each, while Asma Ahmad from Lahore and Ghulam Mustafa from Khushab donated Rs5,000 each. ZA Zubairi deposited Rs 25000 in the fund through online transfer.
