Samir only hope for Pakistan, Philippines Davis Cup tie

LAHORE – Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) has received another blow to their bid in Davis Cup semi-final against Phillpines as Pakistan ace have withdrawn from the Davis Cup tie due to knee injury.
Pakistan pride junior and 2011 Davis Cupper Samir Iftikhar, who is on athletic scholarship at University of New Mexico and for last on year has been playing the highly competitive tennis at NCAA Division I tennis circuit in USA, has offered his services to Pakistan and play the tie.
Former Davis Cupper has informed the PTF and has written a letter in this regard. It is pertinent to mention hhere that 20-year-old Samir is the only junior from Pakistan who had won four ITF Junior World Ranking titles and had powered his way into 2011 Davis Cup team with unbeaten run at Davis Cup trails in which he had defeated M Abid, Jalil and Yasir convincingly  and also beat Jalil in Dilawar Abbass Memorial Tournament last year in straight sets.  It is hoped that better sense will prevail to the PTF and Pakistan’s future hope after Aisam will be given opportunity as he is capable of outplaying his opponents.
