CM takes stock of private hospitals

OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE - Two more dengue patients died and hundreds of people joined queues at hospitals to have their tests done in the City on Saturday. On the other hand, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharid, taking a serious notice of public complaints regarding private hospitals charging huge amounts from the dengue patients, has directed to constitute a special committee to hold talks with these hospitals. The Punjab government, in the light of its dialogues with the private hospitals, will announce a policy with regard to provision of medical facilities to the dengue patients in private hospitals on Sunday, the chief minister said while presiding over a meeting to review the ongoing campaign against the epidemic. Shahbaz Sharif directed that Work Charge employees be recruited immediately for spray and fogging in the provincial metropolis and said that hardworking and dutiful persons should be selected for this purpose, and this process should be completely free from political interference. The chief minister also issued instructions for immediate import of foggers and said that wherever foggers were available, should immediately be imported by air. Addressing the meeting, Shahbaz Sharif said that additional machines were being provided on emergent basis to those hospitals where there was shortage of the machines so that patients should not face inconvenience of waiting. He directed that spray in the schools should be carried out after school timings and all private schools should also be bound to get spray. He directed to display banners, steamers and flexes at important places and chowks of provincial metropolis so that maximum people could get awareness about dengue virus. Earlier, Secretary Health Jehanzeb Khan informed that 2056 cases of dengue virus had been reported throughout the province, of which, a large number relates to Lahore. He told that on the direction of Chief Minister, seven machines have been provided to Lahore General Hospital for blood tests and two machines to Ganga Ram Hospital whereas a Deputy District Health Officer had also been deputed in each town. In a related development, Shahbaz Sharif made telephnic contact on the free helpline 0800-99000 with medical experts without disclosing his identity. The staff of helpline immediately attending the call provided all information with regard to dengue virus. Expressing his satisfaction over the performance of the staff, the CM directed that they should perform their duties with devotion and hard work Meanwhile, Special Tribunal set up for dengue virus has presented its preliminary report to the CM. Additional IG Punjab Aftab Sultan is heading this Special Tribunal. According to the report, the ingredients of medicine used in the spray for elimination of dengue virus are as per international standard and no irregularity was found at any stage in the purchase of medicine for spray. Those died on Saturday because of the dengue fever were identified as Rao Ashraf, 32, and Rafaqat Masih, 42. Some private TV channels were, however, claiming four deaths. According to the Health Department figures, there were 323 confirmed cases of dengue patients on Saturday. Chairman Dengue Emergency Response Committee Kh Saad Rafique has asked private schools to ensure anti mosquito spray twice a seek in their schools with out charging extra amount from their students.
