Lahore Whites rout Pindi to retain regional title

LAHORE Holders Lahore Whites thrashed Rawalpindis Askari Green by 95 runs to win 12th National Seniors Cricket Cup (North Zone) 2010 at LCCA Cricket ground, near Gaddafi Stadium on Thursday. Khawaja Nadeem Ahmed, President of the Lahore City Cricket Association (LCCA) was the chief guest while Pakistan Veteran Cricket Association (PVCA) Chief Executive Officer Ashiq Hussain Qureshi presided over the function. Nadeem congratulated Whites for winning the North Zone final ninth times after triumphs in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2009. He said: If LCCA wants to get good results then only committed and welfare-oriented persons are needed. I will go out all out to save Lahore cricket. Under Ghaffar Kazmi, Lahore Whites made 264-8 in the 30 overs. Skipper Kazmi was himself the top scorer with 62 while other notable scorers were Zahid Umar 52, Raza Khan 42, Dastagir Butt 30, Aleem Dar 23, Ameer Akber 13 and Shahid Aslam 13*. Irfan Bhatti took 2-43, Masood Aslam 1-29, Shakil Ahmed 1-49, Mehmood Masood 1-54, Saqib Butt 1-42. In reply, Major Nadeem-led Askari managed only 169 in allotted overs despite superb unbeaten 97 by Irfan Bhatti while Raza Butt made 20. Ghaffar also showed fine bowling with 2-32, supported by Rauf Wyne 4-12, Shahid Aslam 2-30. During prize distribution ceremony, winner Lahore Whites and runner-up Askari Green received Rs. 1,50,000 and 75,000 respectively. Ghaffar Kazmi was voted Player of the final and received Rs.5000 while Rs 10,000 were given to Man of the Tournament Javed Malik (Multan Tigers). Best bowler award of Rs.7500 were shared by Tariq Rasheed (Lahore Whites) and Iftikhar Ahmed (Sayid Paper Stags) and in same way, Best Wicket keeper Award was shared by Zahid Umar (Lahore Whites) and Rafaqat Ali (Sayid Paper Stags). Javed Malik (Multan Tigers) and Mansoob Mirza (Askari Green) took best batsman and fielder award of Rs.7500 each. Speaking on occasion, Ashiq said that the event is now a prestigious in national calendar that provides Test and first class cricketers of yester years to perform on platform.
