Over 10 PU students injured in post cricket match clash

LAHORE – Over 10 students received injuries as a result of clash between two student groups in a hostel of Punjab University late Tuesday night.

Reportedly, the students belonging to Pushtoon and Baloch Educational Development Movement were playing music loudly in room number 110 of hostel No. 4 of the university. Meanwhile, a group of more than 100 students of Islami Jamiat Tulba came there and warned them to stop music but they refused on which the IJT students, loaded with guns and clubs started aerial firing and beating the Pushtoon and Baloch students. They set the room in which they were playing music on fire. Police have registered a case against the students of IJT and started investigation.

According to sources the clash took place when Quetta Gladiators cricket team beat Lahore Qalandars. The celebration of Gladiators victory did not go well with the IJT students and they attacked Pushtoon and Baloch students.

The injured students were identified as Muzamil, Izhar, Javed, Habib, Qasim, Alamgir, Imran, Ibrar, Naqeeb and Zareef who were rushed to nearby hospital for medical treatment. However, some students namely Humayun, Ahsan, Ahmad, Sadam and Ilyas received minor injuries.
