MIRPURKHAS - Supreme Court Chief justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali yesterday warned those involved in running a campaign against the higher judiciary on print and social media, to refrain from it in order to save themselves from legal action.
He was speaking as the chief guest at a reception given in his honour on the premises of Mirpurkhas District and Sessions Court under the aegis of the district bar association, which was attended by Sindh High Court Chief Justice Syed Sajjad Ali Shah, LHC judges, Salahuddin Panhwer, Ameer Hani Muslim, Musheer Alam, Ahmed Ali Sheikh, Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi, Syed Farooque Shah, Mrs Ashraf Jahan, Muhammad Iqbal Kalhoro, Khadim Hussain Tunio and Muhammad Faisal Kamal, and hundreds of lawyers.
Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali said: “We had made efforts to recruit judges on merit and given decisions on merit.” He affirmed a large number of cases were being filed in the courts against government departments, asking government officials to improve their efficiency and take decisions on merit.
He remarked the federal and provincial governments were cooperating with the judiciary, underlining the need to make justice system better. He said law courses or law textbooks should be improved so that new lawyers could be aware of laws and play their role in dispensing justice. He also stressed the need for better bench-bar cooperation to provide speedy justice to litigants.
He regretted that in the past the judiciary had to face attacks in the form of PCOs which had caused a great loss to judges and lawyers. “We should adopt measures to stop such kind of illegal actions in future,” the CJP asserted. He asked young lawyers and judges to improve the efficiency of judiciary with a view to meeting the real needs of the masses, which is dispensation of speedy justice.
He lauded the services of Sindh High Court Chief Justice Syed Sajjad Ali Shah for his services to ensure merit in appointing judges and making process of judges’ training transparent.
The CJP urged lawyers to prepare their cases properly. He also asked them to play their role in eradicating injustice and raise their voice against oppression in the society.
Sindh High Court Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, Mirpurkhas District Bar Association President Jan Ali Junejo and others also addressed the ceremony.
Earlier, CJP Anwar Zaheer Jamali and Sindh High Court Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah inaugurated the newly constructed building of the district bar association.
