Islamabad - Islamabad police on Thursday reviewed security arrangements for the first-ever Local Government elections in the capital to ensure complete implementation of the code of ethics of Election Commission of Pakistan.
The meeting presided over by IGP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan was attended among others by SSP (Operations) Sajid Kiani, SP (Traffic) Khalid Rahseed, SP (Special Branch) Zubair Sheikh, SP (Rural) Yasir Afridia, SP (Industrial Area) Rana Tahir, SP (Saddar) Habib Ullah Niazi, SP (City) Ahmed Iqbal, all SDPOs, DSP CIA, DSP Rescue 15, DSP (Security), SHOs and Muharrars. The meeting reviewed the security arrangements for 79 union councils, 800 polling stations and 3,200 polling booths for local government elections.
The SSP briefed the policemen as how to ensure effective security on the occasion and also to submit report with his office about security duties so that elaborate plan may be finalised.
IGP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan said there will be complete ban on display of weapons on the eve of Local Government elections. He directed all police officials to conduct security survey in their respective areas and submit report about sensitive polling stations. He said that it would be ensured to hold elections in a conducive environment as per code of ethics by the ECP. He directed to enhance patrolling during the canvassing campaign by the candidates so that no untoward incident occurs. He said that police of other districts will also be called for security arrangements on this occasion.
