KARACHI - At least 20 employees of Sindh Revenue Department were detained during a protest after they tried to shift their protest to Red Zone from Karachi Press Club on Monday.
A number of employees of Sindh Revenue Department staged a demonstration outside the Karachi Press Club over non-fulfillment of their demands including increase in salaries.
After staging protest for at least four hours, they decided to shift their protest from the Press Club to outside the Sindh Chief Minister House for pressuring the government to fulfill their demands. 
Following the decision, tension engulfed as soon as the protesters started marching towards the CM House when extra contingent of law enforcers along with the water canon was already alerted outside the Karachi Press Club to stop the march before entering into the Red Zone. As the police tried to stop them, a clash was also occurred between the police and the protesters. Later, the police baton charged them, used teargas shells and water canon to disperse them. The police also detained at least 20 protesters and shifted them to different police stations of the Saddar division.
SP Saddar division police Salman Hussain said: “We did not start beating the employees but first the protesters beat the police personnel with sticks and batons which compelled us to take action against them.”
He said the protesters could not resolve their problems even after the meeting at the CM House and representatives of protesters came out from the CM House without any settlement. SP Hussain said the police would register cases against the arrested protesting employees as they attacked the police.  In a meeting held by all Revenue Sindh Employees Associations, officials concerned announced to start a series of protests until their demands would not get fulfilled. The charged protesters vowed to continue protest.
They said staging protest demonstration was their right and such kind of atrocities by the police and the administration could not restrain them from protest.
