Staff shortage troubles people visiting CDA offices

ISLAMABAD - The citizens who visited the Capital Development Authority office on October 10 and October 11, two consecutive working days after Eid Holidays, faced immense troubles owing to staff shortage. On October 10 the attendance in the Authority was 10 percent, which further sunk on October 11 to only five percent of the total employees. Though CDA stands fail to deliver the most basic civic amenities to the citizens of the federal capital, however, it employed 1506 people on permanent basis in approximately past three years. The number of person appointed during the current government regime is approximately three-time higher the number of appointments were made during the eight-and-a-half years dictatorial rule from 1999-2008. These 1506 appointees are beside several hundreds appointees who are engaged either on contract or daily wages basis during the same period. During the period October 12, 1999 to March 15, 2008, a total of 633 persons were recruited in the Authority. It was the period during which unprecedented developmental work was done by the civic agency. However, people are questioning about these recruitments now, when inefficiency and corruption are getting momentum and the Authority seems failed to address the basic civic issues.
