Shujaat trying to fish in Opp troubled waters

ISLAMABAD – In a bid to exploit recently created gulf between main opposition parties, PML-N and JUI-F, PML-Q chief Chaudhary Shujaat has twice contacted Fazlur Rahman for seat adjustment in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.Dropping the name of Justice (r) Shakir Ullah Jan for the slot of caretaker prime minister by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz without consulting its junior opposition partner Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam has caused the rift between them and no serious effort has been made to repair the strained relations. This encouraged Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid president to step forward and exploit this opportunity for reaching seat adjustment arrangement, sources in PML-Q shared with TheNation. They said Shujaat has twice contacted JUI-F chief in two days, though he received a lukewarm response from Fazalur Rahman.Faza is known for his smart political moves at critical junctures but he did not show interest in the offer and disappointed Shujaat as he during the conversations he did not even express his 'annoyance' over PML-N’s unilateral mover regarding the caretaker PM, sources said. They said the two leaders however exchanged views on government-opposition deadlock over caretaker PM as well as chief ministers in Punjab and Balochistan. The PML-N also has not ruled out possibility to re-entre the name of Justice (r) Shakir Ullah to the list opposition nominees for the caretaker PM, but they did not included any JUI-F member to the eignt-member parliamentary committee tasked to develop consensus on the issue. Moreover, the PML-N just made one attempt to repair its relations with the junior partner. When contacted, PML-Q spokesman Kamil Ali Agha confirmed contact between the leadership of PML-Q and JUI-F to discuss ongoing political situation of country. "Both the leaders have old relations... they discussed ongoing and future political situation,” he said. But Agha expressed his ignorance about his party’s proposal for seat adjustments with JUI-F in KP.PML-N and JUI-F have been in contact for last some months for seat adjustments in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as well as in Sindh and Balochistan. JUI-F central leader Abdul Ghafor Haideri informed that they have almost finalised seat adjustment matter in Sindh and discussion was underway for rest of the areas. About KP, Haideri said they have conveyed their provincial chapter to give priority to PML-N on this issue. He said the two parties have so far not formally discussed election alliance or seat adjustment in Balochistan.
