Mamnoon Hussain elected President of Pakistan: CEC

Mamnoon Hussain has been elected the President of Pakistan by securing 432 votes, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice (retd.) Fakhruddin G. Ibrahim announced on Tuesday.
Addressing a press conference here, Ibrahim said that as many as 1174 people exercised their right to vote in the presidential election.  For the first time, a president was elected in a democratic manner, he said.
Justice Wajihuddin Ahmed, who was PTI’s candidate in the elections, has secured 77 electoral votes, according to the CEC.
To a question, the chief election commissioner said that no party should have boycotted the elections. But he maintained that it would make no difference to the credibility of the elections.
Army and rangers played a role in conducting free and fair elections, he said.
The CEC said that it was now a responsibilty of the elected rulers to give good goverance to the people.
