Alleged killing of woman sparks protest

Traffic on Lahore-Sargodha-Faisalabad road remained suspended for about seven hours due to a protest against the alleged death of 65-year-old woman in Capri Park area due to torture of the Bhiki Police in early hours on Monday.
As per details, a team of the Bhiki Police led by ASI Abdul Salam Dogar, along with two complainants - Ghulam Rasool and Hakim Bashir raided the house one Sh Riaz Ahmad to arrest him in a monetary case. When the police entered the house, 65-year-old Maqbool Bibi, mother of Sh Riaz asked reason for their trespassing on the house. The police told her that they had come to arrest her son Riaz. However, the woman put up resistance to avert her son’s arrest. In the meanwhile, the ASI pushed her resultantly she fell down and her head struck against an electric pole at which she died on the spot. After the incident, the police personnel fled from the scene. Later a large number of locals coupled with relatives of the deceased woman placed the dead body on Lahore-Sargodha-Faisalabad Road and blocked traffic for about seven hours. They chanted slogans against the police and demanded stern action against the cops involved in the incident. The police officials held negotiated with the protesters and assured action against the guilty policemen at which they ended their protest.
The City A Division Police, on the directives of DPO, registered a case under section 302, 148, 149 PPC against ASI Islam Dogar, three constables and two complainant who barged into the house along with police.
