KPK enrolment drive gets record response


PESHAWAR - The enrollment campaign of Elementary and Secondary Education (E&SE) Department has received an unprecedented response in Khyber Pakhtukhwa as 142,140 children have so far been enrolled with 85,517 boys and 56,623 girls.
Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan kicked off the campaign on September 10.
"Within less than a couple of weeks, the E&SE Department has succeeded in enrolling such a huge number of students," E&SE Secretary Joudat Ayaz said. The campaign, he added, would continue at least for next four weeks, which would help brining maximum number of children to the schools.
Data gleaned from the Education Management Information System (EMIS) of the E&SE Department shows Peshawar district with the figure of 21,821 is on the top followed by Swat and Mardan where 15,338 and 14,341 students were enrolled, respectively. So far as the girls' enrollment is concerned, Mardan district with 11,742 new girl students is closely chasing Peshawar, which has hitherto registered 12,630 girls.
Kohistan and Tor Ghar districts went to the bottom where 513 and 1,011 new students could be enrolled, respectively. The data further reveals that in Lower Dir 7,522 students were enrolled while in Abbottabad 6,880, Charsadda 6,486, Mansehra 6,479, Kohat 6,178, Bannu 5,702, Haripur 5,250, Shangla 5,195, Malakand 4,904, Nowshera 4,662, Lakki Marwat 4,517, Dera Ismail Khan 4,216, Swabi 4,194, Dir Upper 2,983, Buner 2,758, Karak 2,752, Hangu 2,640, Chitral 2,410, Battagram 1,851 and Tank 1,537 were admitted.
