LCCI for revision of gas tariff

LAHORE - President Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mohammad Ali Mian has said that the local industry had already suffered a loss of billions of rupees due to hike in gas prices and a further delay in the decision would cause an irreparable loss to the manufacturing units. He, while appreciating the Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani for constituting high-powered ministerial committee on gas tariff, has demanded of the committee to come up with a decision regarding revision in gas tariff as early as possible. In a statement issued on Saturday, the LCCI President Mohammad Ali Mian said that the local industry had already suffered a loss of billions of rupees due to hike in gas prices and a further delay in the decision would cause an irreparable loss. While quoting the example of oil producing countries, where the oil is available to their citizens at the prices lower than international prices for being an indigenous produce, the LCCI President said that the gas is also an indigenous product in Pakistan and increase in its prices is beyond the perception of common man. Mohammad Ali Mian also urged the committee to review the imposition of 10 per cent Withholding Tax on electricity bills as due to high cost of doing business, Pakistani merchandise are losing their due place in the international market.
