20-hour loadhsedding, power shortfall reaches 5,000MW

A 20-hour loadhsedding hit the country as the power shortfall reaches an unprecedented 5,000megawatts. Lengthy outages added to public miseries as life paralyzed. According to ministry of Water And Power, rise in heat and decline in water reservoirs caused in decrease of power generation to 8,700MW against the demand of 13,734. Meanwhile, furnace oil supply to oil refineries is shrunk by 22,000 metric tones. Currently, 2,640MW power is being produced by Hydel power plant, 2070megawatts from Thermal plant while 4000MW being generated by IPPs. Around 620MW electricity is being supplied to KESC to meet Karachis demand.
