SAHIWAL Supreme Court Bar Pakistan President Asma Jahangir during his short stay here at the Sahiwal Bar said that courts should uphold the merit while dispensing the justice She said that there was a huge backlog of cases, which needed to be disposed of at the earliest. She said that appointments of judges should also be made on merits and that the great deal needed to be done to reframe the present judiciary. Earlier, she was warmly welcomed by office-bearers and member of Sahwial DBA. DEATH SENTENCE: Additional Sessions Judge Khawaja Muhammad Zafar Iqbal has sentenced death penalty to Iqbal Nisar Jan of resident Chak No 148/9 L for a murder. The convict murdered Perveen D/O Shafqat . His cousin Shamoon tied the knot with Perveen some time ago. But, according to the police, after her marriage Salman Raheel abducted Perveen, which triggering a dispute between Salman Raheel and Iqbal Nisar Jan and Iqbal killed Salman along others . The case was registered against Iqbal Nisar Jan and others. After trial the court has awarded death sentence Iqbal Nisar Jan and ordered to pay Rs50,000 as damages in case he could not pay the fine, he have to face 6 months imprisonment .The court acquitted four Zaman Alies Rana , Sultan and others giving them benefit of doubt.
