JI calls for cut in fuel, daily use items prices

LAHORE - Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) through a resolution has called for slashing the petroleum prices as well as prices of the items of daily use by at least 30 per cent. The resolution carried by Central Majlis-e-Shoora of JI, noted that the worst kind of load shedding in the country has badly hit at the economy as non-availability of electricity has forced stoppage of all commercial and business activity in addition to halting the industry. The power dearth has made life of the daily wagers and the labourers miserable in addition to closing down business of the small units. JI said load shedding is also hitting at the agriculture sector for no irrigation of crops is possible through tube-well without electricity. And this situation is more grave when it is sowing season, as now it was sowing season of the wheat. Demanding decrease in the petroleum and prices of other items of daily use, the JI resolution said the poor segments of the society couldn't bear more than the prices hike of the present days, which have been recorded, between 50 to 150 per cent. It has called for affecting immediate reduction of 30 per cent in the prices of all commodities of daily use and freezing the prices at that level for three years. It has also called for making sure implementation of the government announced fixation of minimum wages at Rs 6000 per month. The JI Shoora noted that due to economic policies of the government, the country has once again fallen trap to the tough conditions of IMF, which are sure to slow down the economic activity in the country and to increase unemployment and making supply of commodities scarce. It said the recent devaluation in the Pakistan rupees has added Rs900billion to our national debts while loans from the IMF is bound to do the worst. The resolution has demanded of the government to frame new economic policy after taking the parliament into confidence so that instead of foreign loans, reliance is made on our own resources and productivity. It said this could be possible only if Pakistan is able to frame its policies independently without getting dictations on them from America and the foreign investors. It called for making law to get back money of the rich from abroad. and that the priority is set to increasing production of the small businesses and enterprises and such policies are pursued which generated job opportunities to end employment in the country. The resolution has also called for ending the military operation in FATA and NWFP and that Pakistan must part with American war on terror and abandon as acting its a front line ally in this war. That the army from the said areas must be called back and peace in that areas should be brought through peace committees to be set up in consultation with the ulema, local elders and political personalities. It also called for making arrangement for the education of children in the effected areas.
