Formation on Senate PAC gets approval

ISLAMABAD - The Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the Senate yesterday gave formal approval to the amendments in the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Senate, 2012 for constitution of a Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Upper House of the Parliament.

However, the BAC decided that the proposed amendments would be laid before the house for soliciting final approval. The committee hoped that in two weeks the government would respond on the issue of joint Public Accounts Committee of the two houses of the parliament.

Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani earlier has delayed the matter of the formation of Senate's own PAC till the resumption of official work by the prime minister after his treatment from abroad. Earlier, only National Assembly has its PAC.

The Committee was presided over by Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani and was attended by Leader of the House Raja Muhammad Zafar ul Haq besides other senators. Secretary Senate Amjed Pervez Malik also attended the meeting and briefed the Committee about the compliance report regarding earlier decisions of the BAC.

The Committee paid glowing tributes to renowned social worker Abdul Sattar Edhi for his services to humanity. The BAC also condemned the brutal murder of famous qawal Amjad Sabri and eulogised his contributions. It condemned the state oppression in occupied Kashmir.

It was decided in the meeting that the current Senate session would continue for two weeks in which the matters pertaining to national and international significance besides calling attentions notices, adjournment motions and other important legislative matters would be taken up.
