Imran suspends political activities

Spends full day with new bride in Bani Gala

ISLAMABAD - A day after his third marriage, Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan remained suspended his political activities for Monday to give more time to his new bride in Bani Gala.

At the same time, the PTI through a public announcement said that party chief had decided not to travel abroad immediately after his marriage and would remain in Pakistan.

A statement issued by the party’s Central Media Department said that Imran Khan passed his Monday in Bani Gala — the palatial residence of the party chief, where his bride moved from Lahore after they solemnised nikah on Sunday.

However, Imran Khan would resume his political activities today (Tuesday) and will embark on one-day visit to Peshawar. Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will welcome party chief. Imran Khan during his stay in Peshawar will meet provincial ministers, members of KP Assembly and the local leadership of the party.

A party spokesperson had announced on Sunday that Chairman Imran Khan had married Bushra Watto, the lady he used to visit to seek spiritual guidance. The announcement was made officially by releasing photographs of the nikah ceremony.

The photographs showed Imran with the bride, her relatives, his political secretary Aun Chaudhry and close friend Zulfi Bukhari. The family members of Imran and his sisters were missing in nikah ceremony.

According to the photographs, Mufti Saeed performed nikah. Saeed who is now a central leader of the party had also performed the second nikah of the PTI chief with TV anchor Reham Khan in 2015.

A separate statement made by the party said that party chairman Imran had decided to arrange walima ceremony in the light of the practices of Last Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him). “The ceremony would be held in the next coming days at Bani Gala that will be simple and gracious,” the statement said adding that PTI chief had decided to keep the ceremony limited. It further said that the reports that Imran was travelling abroad were misleading.

The news that Imran had secretly married Bushra Watto, the spiritual leader of the party chief, on January 1 had first made headlines on January 6. However, Imran Khan denied the report and said that he had only proposed Bushra. He had also denied the reports of his second marriage in last months of 2014 but later announced the marriage publicly in 2015. His second marriage with Reham Khan only continued for 10 months.

The reporter, who had broken the news, in his interview with a TV channel, was insisting that Imran had married on January 1.

Bushra Watto, also known as Bushra Maneka, had previously married a senior bureaucrat and member of an influential political family of Punjab but she got separation last year due to some spiritual reasons.  Imran had first married a British national Jemima Khan in 1995 that ended in divorce after nine years in 2004.
