Indonesian embassy holds handicraft exhibition


ISLAMABAD – The Indonesian Women Association of the Indonesian Embassy on Saturday organised an exhibition showcasing rich culture and crafts of Indonesia.
The exhibits include a range of colourful brooches, necklaces, bracelets, pins, earrings, rings, handbags, garments, tapis and batik products. The tin wares particularly the tea sets remained attracted visitors at the exhibition.
A demonstration of batik making technique was also arranged where the visitors were taught some basics of the ancient art. Another attraction included “Tapis” a traditional weaving style from Lampung, Indonesia. Chairperson Indonesian Women Association Butar Latuconsina expressed her pleasure for the successful launching of the exhibition and promoting art and craft of Indonesia. She said that objective of the exhibition was to provide an opportunity to the citizenry of Islamabad to come and witness the skill of the Indonesian craftsmen. She said that the handicrafts were also available for sale and those who have been longing for the objects may come to the exhibition to fetch them. She said that handicrafts were one of the areas which offered great potential in bilateral trade and the exhibition would help promote business activities between the two countries.
Indonesian Envoy Ishak Latuconsina admired the initiative of the IWA and stressed for organising more such events for greater people-to-people contacts between the two countries. Ishak also mentioned that the proceeds from the exhibition would be donated to the charitable organisations.
