Karachi Greens win Senior Cricket title

OUR STAFF REPORTER KARACHI - Fine all-round performance by Jaffer Qureshi helped Karachi Greens beat Rawalpindi Royals by 75 runs in the final to clinch the 13th National Seniors Cup title here on Sunday at the NBP Sports Complex. Pakistan Veterans Cricket Association had organized the championship for the last 13 consecutive years. A total of 91 teams from 59 cities throughout Pakistan took part in the current edition of the tournament. Put into bat first, Karachi Greens scored 234 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in the stipulated 30 overs. Former Pakistani player Sajid Ali and Jaffer Qureshi scored 188 runs for the opening partnership. Jaffer Qureshi scored 92 runs with 4 sixes and 7 fours and Sajid Ali scored 87 runs with a six and 9 fours. Arif Mehmood scored 25 in 14 balls. Ejaz Muhammad of Pawalpindi Royals took all the four wickets to fall for 57 runs. Rawalpindi Royals could not keep the required run rate and were bowled out in the 29 over for 159 runs. Syed Azeem scored 45 runs with 7 fours and M Ibrahim scored 36 runs with a six and 5 fours. For Karachi Greens, Ahmed Hayat took 3/15, Jaffer Qureshi 3/33, Arif Mahmood 2/ 35 and Imran Afzal 2/ 46 runs. Jaffer Qureshi for his all-round performance was declared Man of the Match. Dr Syed M Ali Shah, Sindh Minister for Sports was the chief guest of the prize distribution ceremony while Fawad Ijaz Khan Chairman PVCA and Ashiq Hussain Qureshi Chief Executive PVCA was also present on the occasion.
