Islamabad - Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) on Thursday started mailing books to its over seven lakh students across the country for the autumn, 2015 semester.
In all there will be thirty lakh books, along with allied material to be dispatched within a period of two months to students of all academic programs, said a news release issue on Thursday.
In first phase, the books are being sent to the students of CT program.
A time-line has been fixed to ensure timely availability of books to the students said Vice Chancellor Dr Shahid Siddiqui during his visit to the University’s print and Publication Unit.
A new computerized tracking system has been introduced, facilitating its thousands of students to check books’ mailing status.
A new website (mailing.aiou.edu.pk) has been launched for this purpose. A student could easily find out the books’ mailing position by entering his roll number or admission’s challan number in the mail box.
In order to transform mailing system, it was also decided to send text message to students on their cell phone as soon as books are dispatched on given postal address.
As per current practices, all books are sent to the students through postal services. For facilitating the students, postage registry number and roll numbers have been kept same. The students have been advised to contact their relevant post offices in case of delay in the books’ delivery. The relevant staff has also been advised to ensure accuracy in the mailing system to avoid any inconvenience at the students’ level, the Vice Chancellor said. Students’ support system and the mailing process are being given top priority to keep up students’ interest, he added.
Automaton mailing process was being introduced for the quick delivery of the books.
