Efforts on to address varsities financial problems: Kausar

PESHAWAR - Khyber Pak-htunkhwa, Governor, Barrister Masood Kausar has said that promotion of higher education is a requirement of indispensable nature and no nation can expect development while overlooking this aspect of vital importance.  With this reality in mind, he added, he himself is quite conscious of the ground realities and is making every possible effort to resolve the financial difficulties of the public sector universities.Presiding over a high level meeting held at Governor’s House, Peshawar, on Wednesday, the governor who is also the chancellor of the public sector universities, particularly referred to the situation emerging in wake of devolution of power from federation to the provinces and consequent legal enactments in this respect as well as the role and responsibilities of the respective departments and organisations thereof and said that introduction of concrete action plan has indeed become the need of the hour. Besides, the Additional Chief Secretary of the province, Attaullah Khan, Secretary Higher Education, Farah Hamid Khan, Secretary to Governor Muhammad Abid Majeed, special secretaries of Finance, other concerned departments and representative of Higher Education Commission, Dr Nasir Ali Khan, the meeting was also attended by the vice chancellor of the respective universities on this occasion.The financial constraints of the public sector universities and possible solutions thereof especially in the wake of the changed situation came under discussion and the vice chancellors briefed the Governor about the details in respect of their respective educational institutions. Speaking on the occasion, the governor said that he fully realises the state of difficulties, which the campuses have been facing for quite some time and he will support the stance of the respective institutions at every level. The governor also expressed the confidence that their grievances will be resolved shortly.  Online adds: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Chief Minister, Ameer Haider Hoti has said that investment in education sector is guarantee to bright future of the nation. Addressing a gathering in connection of provision of keys of buses to administration of different educational institutes of districts Lakki Marwat and Swabi at CM Secretariat on Wednesday he said that the present government has taken revolutionary step in allocating 4% provincial GDP to education. The Chief Minister said that provision of the buses will make available transport facilities to the students and they will continue their education endeavors with full attention and spirit.Later on, the chief minister handed over keys of Suzuki Pickups to District Coordination Officers of 10 districts, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Dir Lower, Dir Upper, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, DI Khan and Tank. MNA Pervez Khan, MPA, Sikander Irfan and Yasmin Zia, ANP President district Lakki, central leader Pakhtun Students Federation, principals of colleges and administrative officers were also present on the occasion.
