The black coats launched on Thursday ‘jail bharo tehreek’ against nomination of dozens of lawyers in judicial complex attack case and 20 including current and past presidents of district and high court bars offered arrests here at Chowk Kutchehry.
The arrested lawyers included High Court Bar Association president Sher Zaman Qureshi, district bar president Yousuf Zubair, former bar presidents Mahmood Ashraf Khan and Mumtaz Noor Tangra and others. Their comrades showered rose petals on them and shouted slogans in their favour.
The lawyers had brought out a rally against shifting of courts to newly-constructed judicial complex and absence of facilities like their chambers and toilets at the new premises a couple of days back. The protesters turned violent and seriously damaged the judicial complex as they shattered window glasses, smashed doors and ruined furniture. Sources said that about 50 lawyers have been nominated in the FIR registered in the incident and it contains nine different sections including anti-terrorism one.
Talking to the journalists before their arrests, the lawyer leaders said that their agitation would continue until the courts are brought back to old Kutchehry. They said that they are not afraid of arrests or police torture. They pointed out that the new judicial complex lacks all facilities and the decision to shift the courts is meant to put the lawyers and litigants in trouble.
